Essential Concepts:

1. The majority of technological advancements in the Middle Ages centered on warfare.  People made advancements in architecture and machinery for protecting their lands and attacking the lands of other lords.

2. Great advancements were made in architecture for the Catholic Church also.  Larger churches, that could hold more people were constantly being improved throughout this time period.

3. The control of the Catholic Church made scientific advancement very difficult.

1. The Mongols conquered and united most of present day China and Korea for approximately 80 years during the 13th and 14th centuries. This dynasty strengthened trade in China by exporting porcelain and silk.
2.  Feudalism developed as a political system based on small local units controlled by lords bound by an oath of loyalty to a Monarch.  The decline of feudalism in Europe resulted from interactions between the Muslim world and the European states.  These interactions influenced the rise of new ideas and institutions.
