10 Things You Should Know About Your Digital Footprint

Picture
CMS and BMS students.  Mr. Holman and I feel that "leaving positive digital footprints worth following" is just as important as the historical content we teach throughout the school year.  It is why we painted the phrase on our walls, it is why we have blog buddies and it is why we allow you to maintain your own website & blog throughout the school year.  Please click the picture to the left. After you read the article leave a comment.  Talk about how the article made you think about YOUR digital footprint.  Are you posting work that you want your parents, future colleges and future employers to see?  Is there anyway you can improve upon your work and the material you post to the web?

After you read the article and comment on this blog post, please link the article to the homepage of your website and write a brief summary of what the article talks about.  You can link the picture, or create a button, or hyperlink text.

This article has really made an influence on me. It is important that I don't leave bad digital footprints because they can affect my future such as when I'm applying colledges or trying to get a job. I also need to make sure not to put to much specific details about myself online because bad things could happen if I do. Overall I need to be a good digital citizen.

The digital footprints that you leave on the internet can effect your life in the future. If you put something online when you are young, when you are trying to find a college, they will see it and you might not get in because of it. You need to make good decisions when you post something on the internet or your future may be affected.

Digital footprints that you leave on the internet can have a big impact on your future. You could put something bad, or good out in the internet and someone may see it and it could make or break your life.

Leaving good digital footprints may not seem important at first but it has an effect on everything you do. It may seem funny or cool at the moment but it’s not. If you don’t show yourself as a responsible person on the internet then people won’t think of you as responsible in the real world. A lot of people believe anything they see on the internet so don’t write anything that isn’t true about you. This article really helped me and made me second guess what I post on my site.

This article has explained how things posted on the internet can't be erased, and how one small mistake can ruin your future. Anything can be seen by anyone once you post it, so treat what you write as if you were saying it in person. Whatever you write can affect your education by not getting you into college because of a picture or message. Stay smart on the web and you'll stay out of trouble :)

Number 7 I agree with because you need to keep your own information private and not spill out your information to the world. This article has good points. This article makes me think about what stuff I do on the internet. I learned that colleges do look and focus a lot on what their applicants do on the internet. I have to make good choices.

This article helped me understand better the positive and negative impacts of digital footprints. I now feel that when I am online, I am more educated as to what to do and as to what not to do. I know the positive and negative consequences of digital footprints. I learned that if I leave a bad digital footprint, that no matter what I try to do to make it disappear, it is archived forever.

From this article, I learned that the Internet isn't always as "anonymous" as it seems. What you say on the Internet, and what you do on the Internet, can impact your life forever. Bad choices that you make on the internet usually result in bad consequences. But another point to take into consideration, is that when you do great things or say great things on the Internet, that can also effect what job you get or what college you get into. Most importantly, I have learned not to be afraid of the Internet, but to essentially think about and take into consideration what actions I take on the Internet.

8. The Golden Rule. Never has this rule applied more than to how you speak to others online. What are you truly accomplishing by saying things behind the veil of a computer screen, that you would never say to someone in person? Treat others, as you would like to be treated. Simply put, if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Remember, you can’t truly delete when you SEND.

I just realized what you say to some one online can hurt just as much in person

If you post something anywhere, anyone can find it and track it down.

I thought that it was interesting that the Golden Rule also applies to the internet even though we never think of it that way. We need to be sure that we post things that we wouldn't mind if someone else saw.

All of you people are sheep controlled by a bunch of 1s and 0s. You are not remotely real, which makes all these comments rather creepy and unnerving. As I comment I realise that I put myself in a position where I also could be considered not real, but I assure those who are reading this that I am as real as you.
